Chelsio joins CNCF

Chelsio announced its membership in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a Silver Member. Chelsio's high-performance SR-IOV solution handles data-intensive workloads and provides optimized networking functionalities to containerized applications. Chelsio published:
•   blog post exploring the key benefits, performance gains, use cases, and integration of T6 adapters into Kubernetes environments.
•   CNCF Webinar, exploring the network challenges in environments of multiple nodes and containers and how Chelsio T6 adapters address them. It also demonstrates detailed test setup, configuration, and performance results.

Chelsio at Embedded Vision Summit and CommunicAsia

Chelsio exhibited its latest 7th generation T7 Data Processing Unit (DPU) at Embedded Vision Summit and CommunicAsia conferences. Chelsio demonstrated the below features on the T7 Emulation Platform:
•   iSCSI JBOF with T7
•   RoCEv2 hardware-based acceleration for NVMe-oF Target
•   L2 NIC and Offload Protocols with Inline IPsec
•   NVMe-oF iWARP RDMA Offload
•   NVMe/TCP Offload Demonstration
•   NIC TLS Offload in FreeBSD
•   L2 NIC, TOE, iSCSI, and iWARP offloads
•   T7 Introduction

New Products

•   Chelsio announced the release of L2 NIC Driver Extension (DEXT) for macOS Sonoma. The driver supports Mac Mini with Thunderbolt Expansion chassis, Mac Pro with its PCIe expansion slots, delivering exceptional performance for Media & Entertainment customers.
•   Chelsio sponsored the development of NVMe over Fabrics in FreeBSD. TCP transport is currently supported. Additionally, Offload support for both NVMe/TCP host and controller is inboxed with the FreeBSD kernel. Chelsio adapters are plug-and-play solutions for high-performance low-latency storage access, with concurrent support of feature-rich capabilities like iSCSI, TCP Offload, Inline TLS/SSL offload, Traffic Management, Filtering, iWARP RDMA, and SR-IOV Virtual Functions.

Recent Publications

•   Chelsio published a Technical Brief detailing its advanced High-Performance Networking Solutions in a multi-host Red Hat OpenShift environment. Leveraging the Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) feature of Chelsio adapters, the containers achieved bare-metal performance. With the solution already inboxed in OpenShift, it is easy to use.
•   Chelsio published benchmark results for containers in Kubernetes environment. Chelsio adapters delivered line-rate 98 Gbps throughput for the containers using standard plugins like Flannel, Multus and SR-IOV CNI. A maximum of 35% CPU was utilized on the host, highlighting the efficiency of Chelsio SR-IOV Network solution.
•   Chelsio published a benchmark report comparing NFS/TCP Server performance with Chelsio TCP Offload vs. regular L2 NIC in FreeBSD. A major benefit of the reduced CPU utilization enabled by Chelsio TCP Offload is radically reduced Capex for NFS/TCP server deployments. Specifically, ~30% of a typical ~$10k NFS filter head cost is saved by using Chelsio T6 TCP Offload which translates to ~$3K+ savings per head, not to mention the savings in the storage that is hosted by the head.
•   Chelsio published a 100G performance comparison of the NGINX Plus web server running with T6 Inline TLS/SSL offload and NVIDIA CX6 kTLS offload. 45% of a typical $5k server cost is saved by using Chelsio T6 instead of NVIDIA ConnectX-6 which translates to $2K+ savings per NGINX server. This can result in a major TCO reduction and boost ROI. These savings will be magnified as data centers transition to 200Gbps and 400Gbps speeds.
•   Chelsio published the performance results of NVMe/TCP using Chelsio T6 Offload solution for both Kernel and User modes. With more than 2.9 Million IOPs at the 4K I/O size, only an 8.69 μs delta latency between remote and local storage access, up to 50% CPU savings, exceptional jitter handling capabilities, the Chelsio solution proves to be the best-in-class at providing the next generation, scalable storage network over standard and cost-effective Ethernet infrastructure with an efficient processing path.
•   Chelsio published a paper on how the iWARP enabled T6 25G Unified Wire and Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) enable a low-cost, plug-and-play, high-performance Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) solution using standard Ethernet infrastructure.
•   Demartek published a benchmark of iSCSI offload vs. no offload for a class of real world applications. The results clearly demonstrated the necessity of offload for 100Gb iSCSI.
